Help turn “CF” from Cystic Fibrosis to Cure Found.

Imagine you had spent every morning of your childhood having a family member pat your pack for twenty minutes to loosen mucus in your lungs so you could breathe.

Imagine eating, but never feeling completely satisfied, as your digestive tract is unable to absorb nutrients from your food; leaving you at risk for malnutrition and poor growth.

Imagine that frequent lung infections, persistent coughing, or shortness of breath are a regular part of your daily life.

Many of the 30,000 people in the United States living with Cystic Fibrosis do not have to imagine. **

Thanks to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF) (www.CFF.org), there have been significant improvements in the treatment of CF in the past 50 years. In 1962 the average life span of a person with Cystic Fibrosis was 10 years.  By 2008, the lifespan had nearly quadrupled to 36.4 years and counting. This amazing success in length and quality of life is due largely in part to the people at the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and its supporters. In 1964, CFF established the first basic science committee to start researching CF at a cellular level. In 1989 a team of scientists who were mainly supported by CFF found the gene that causes Cystic Fibrosis. Between 2002-2008, many scientists and pharmaceutical companies working with the support of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation made incredibly strides in the discovery of drugs to help treat the symptoms of CF.

Yet, the search for a cure is not over. The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation needs support from people like you to keep funding research and spreading the word about this disease.  The best part about helping CFF is you don’t even have to sacrifice anything in order to help out.

On FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 18th. JOIN PHILANTHRO TO SAVOR THE SUMMER AT THE WHITE PARTY AT BOULEVARD3. 100% OF PROCEEDS GO TO THE CYSTIC FIBROSIS FOUNDATION.  CHECK OUT THE EVENT ON FACEBOOK:

Check back for more information on what special things we’ll have going on at the party.

HELP TURN CF INTO ‘CURE FOUND’.

**WHAT IS CYSTIC FIBROSIS?

OVERALL

Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic disease that directly affects the exocrine glands of the body, including those that produce mucus and sweat.  The excess production of mucus affects several areas of the body. Remember that for some people, these symptoms are a constant.

CYSTIC FIBROSIS AND THE LUNGS

Excess mucus in the lungs causes infections, such as Pneumonia, shortnesss of breath and constant coughing to try to clear the airways. One form of treatment for this problem is for the person with Cystic Fibrosis to breathe a medicinal mist that helps loosen the mucus, or phlegm, build up to make it easier to breath.

CYSTIC FIBROSIS AND THE SINUS

Excess mucus in the sinuses can block the nasal passage and cause an increase in nasal tissue that makes it difficult or impossible to breathe through the nose. This build up can also cause infection in the sinus, which leads to facial pain and headaches.

CYSTIC FIBROSIS AND THE DIGESTIVE SYSTEM?

PANCREAS:

Cystic Fibrosis also produces a secretion in the pancreas, an organ in the digestive system that hinders the absorption of nutrients from food. This can lead to malnutrition and under development.  The Pancreas is also responsible for making insulin, which helps regulate blood sugar, or ‘glucose’. This can cause Cystic Fibrosis Related Diabetes, which is similar to Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.

LIVER:

Cystic Fibrosis can also cause liver damage, that can eventually lead to cirrhosis of the liver, which keeps the liver from taking harmful toxins from the bloodstream.
